St. Benedict’s Convent Cemetery, St. Joseph, Minnesota

St. Benedict’s Convent Cemetery is a small cemetery with only a little over 1,200 graves. It contains the remains of nuns of the St. Benedict Convent, and is the most ordered graveyard I’ve ever seen. There are a small number of what I would call rank and file graves along one edge, but the majority are nun graves.

The graves are laid out chronologically, the oldest of which is that of Sr Benedicta (Sybilla) Riepp, OSB (1825-1862), the founder of the Order of St. Benedict who established the St. Benedict Convent and was its first Mother Superior.
