News From The St. Cloud Journal – February 13, 1868

Pitiful Condition — The St. Paul Press of Thursday says that a woman from forty to fifty years of age, quite plainly clad, and afflicted with “St. Vitas dance” arrived from this place on the Tuesday evening’s train, and was taken to the City Hall by an office under the belief that she was intoxicated. She there said that she was on the way to a married daughter in Michigan, having left several member of her family above St. Cloud. No names are given. Being short of money, funds sufficient were raised to carry her to her destination.

—There are now in operation in Minnesota 431 miles of railroad, 116 of which were constructed during the past year.

Harper’s Bazar. — This new journal of fashion has attained, during the few months of its publication, an immense circulation. It is now considered by ladies the standard. See advertisement. (A year’s subscription was $4.)

—To-morrow will be St. Valentine’s day, though scarcely more than in name. Practically it is a thing of the past.
